An Inspirational Walk in Honor of an Inspirational Person
Warmest greetings. Almost two years ago my loving wife, Sharon Dwane, lost an inspirational and hard fought five and a half year battle with Stage IV Colon Cancer. Her family, friends, and co-workers at the Nashua Police Department want to keep her spirit alive with the Second Annual Sharon’s Walk, to be held on Saturday, May 2, 2015 at Greeley Park in Nashua, New Hampshire.
Sharon’s Walk is an annual event and each year benefits one of Sharon’s favorite charities, this year being Nashua Special Olympics. What makes this walk special is that it will include several Nashua-area Special Olympians and their families. Special Olympics in Nashua covers over 20 different activities ranging from cross country skiing to swimming. We hope to continue to raise awareness and support the good efforts of this fine organization.
Throughout her long battle with cancer, Sharon demonstrated incredible courage, grace, and dignity. Sharon took great comfort during her treatments in always pulling for and rooting for the underdog and always encouraged me to coach in the Special Olympics. It was her inspiration that fostered the “Special Day for Great People” Event in October at Roby Park. Special Olympians and their families gathered for pumpkin decorating, sports, barbeque and sheer fun! Sharon soldiered through her treatment with an ever-present engaging smile and an infectious spirit. Above all else, she served as an inspiration to all who knew her. Won’t you join us in keeping her spirit alive by participating in the 2015 Sharon’s Walk? Like last year walkers are encouraged to bring their leashed dog along for the ride. This way we can continue to raise awareness for another of Sharon’s favorite charities, last year’s recipient of Sharon’s Walk, the Greater Nashua Humane Society.
Majority of the proceeds will benefit the Nashua Special Olympics.
